Game Reports

Week 2 of the Gridiron Qld season was played on Saturday.

The Cougars senior team had a bye week to freshen up and iron out any problems ahead of their clash with fellow title contender, the Bayside Ravens. The Ravens dispatched of the Toowoomba Wolves 48-6, whom the Cougars beat 27-7 the week before. The game will be played at Shaw Park Wooloowin at 7pm this Saturday.

The Junior Cougars backed up last week's gallant 14-0 loss to defending champions Bayside Ravens, with another great effort in a heartbreaking 14-6 loss to last year's runners-up the Brown Plains Bruins. In only
their 2nd game back in the competition after a 2 year break, the junior Cougars are playing with plenty of courage but some fundamentals are hurting them at key times. Several missed tackles allowed the Bruins
quarterback to scramble for a 70 yard touchdown, and a 25 yard touchdown pass had the Bruins up 14-0 early in the 1st half.

The Cougars fought back just before halftime with a 24 yard touchdown pass from Jesse Taua to Daniel Niumata but they fumbled the conversion attempt to be down 14-6 at the half. Despite driving to the Bruins 30
yard line with a minute remaining, and then getting the ball back for one last play at the Bruins 25 yard line, a Taua to Niumata pass for a chance to tie the game fell short when the Bruins defender knocked the
ball away from Niumata and sending the Cougars to a 14-6 loss.

The Junior Cougars though are encouraged by their performances against both of last year's grand finalists and now turn their efforts to playing the Sunshine Coast Spartans this Saturday at Shaw Park Wooloowin
at 2pm.
