Season Draw
The season draw will be known within the next 2-3 weeks. After the August GQ Delegates
Meeting (1 Aug) we will know the venue allocation for the season and we will send all information
to members by 8 August.

Membership and Fees
Any member that joined more than 2 weeks ago now has to pay their remaining fee balance
otherwise they will not be permitted to train unless they have a documented and signed payment
plan with the Club Treasurer. Any player that has been training and has not paid their deposit will
need to do so on Monday 5 July and pay their remaining fees on 19 July otherwise they will be
able to train.

This includes not participating in warm ups and any non contact drills (including touch football
during designated training times of 7-9pm). We have already had players suffer serious injuries in
non contact training and the club is no longer willing to allow unregistered players train.
The club has league entry fees of $2800 to pay to Gridiron Qld as well as registration costs for
those players already registered. It is not fair on those who have paid their fees in full to have
team mates allowed to train without them making payment.

If you are struggling with paying your fees you need to contact Sharon on 0439 135826 to
formalise a payment plan.

Internet banking for fees can be made to (please use your name as the reference so we know
who’s paid):

Training Numbers
We started off with great numbers but attendance has slipped dramatically lately. Unfortunately
the juniors have several players who are involved with conflicting school and club sporting
activities that are their priority until those activities finish hence the low numbers at training.

However there are many occasions where other players have not notified us of their absence
from training. Seniors attendance has also dropped off of late.

Please contact the club phone on 0450 430953, Ross (juniors) on 0413 015187 or Clinton
(seniors) on 0418 762858 if you cannot make training. Coaches put in much more than the 3-4
hours a week that you are asked to attend training so please show them respect by notifying
them of your absence. Failing to attend training is not only letting the coaches down but more
importantly your team mates whom you will go into battle with in 8 weeks time.
Even though it’s getting cold these days, you can still learn by watching training on the sideline.

Coaching DVDs
The club has a great selection of coaching DVDs that are available to copy for players use only. If
you want a copy of any of the DVDs please give me a DVD-R or DVD-RW of at least 4.7GB for
every DVD that you want copied.

20th Anniversary
This year marks the 20th year of Cougars gridiron. The club was formed in 1990 as a junior team
which won the first ever Sun Bowl. The senior team was formed in 1992. Whilst the club moved
from Richlands to Carole Park to Ipswich and to Wacol in 2009 the proud tradition of playing hard
nosed football continued. The junior team has won 4 Sun Bowls and lost 4 whilst the seniors have
won 6 Sun Bowls and lost 2 with all 8 Championship games being played in consecutive years
from 1997 – 2004.

We will celebrate our 20th year with special presentations at our end of season awards with a
tentative date being Saturday 11 December. If you have any ideas for the event please discuss
with myself or any of the other committee members. If you have any old photos or paper clippings
please email the club at cougars@gridironqld.asn.au

Junior numbers
We had a great start to the season but, as mentioned above with several players having other
commitment and having a player withdraw due to poor school results, we are now struggling for
numbers. The committee can only do so much and have plans to get local papers down to
training for photo shoots and will get quotes for portable signage (similar to Real Estate signs) to
place in busy locations, but we really need every club member to spread the word that we need
more juniors.
The juniors that turn up to training are putting in a great effort so please come and grab some
club business cards and put them up at your work or school to help try increase numbers.

Seniors
Currently we have about 45 players on the books but would like to have another 10 by August.
Likewise with our message about getting more juniors, please use our club business cards to
help recruit players.

Facebook
For those who have internet access please feel welcome to join our Facebook group. It’s a great
way to keep in touch with other members and to find out about club events.

Thanks and see you at training. Next newsletter will be out early August.
